Though it is inhospitable to a human, Persephone in fact features a wide variety of native life. That which Persephone is best-known for are doubtless its huge trees: though there are many species they are all nicknamed 'Indi trees' as a group. They are not merely tall but strong, with the trees essentially invulnerable to anything besides seismic activity or machinery. These trees are Persephone's major export, not just to Earth but around the galaxy, as even aliens have developed a taste for the exotic product.

There are also various food crops that are surprisingly nourishing for humans. A genetically modified strain of wheat has been successfully introduced, but for the most part the native crops of Persephone are exploited. Popular crops include 'Monterey potatoes', so named for their tuber-like appearance, and an assortment of relatively dry fruits. Due to the environment they grow in, most of these foods taste terrible with a distinct air of sulfur, but they are at least non-toxic.

There are many animals on Persephone as well, including large predators that pose a danger to humans. Indeed, the mighty owk, a large, six-legged, furry creature, has gained a reputation even among the alien species as an uncommonly large and uncommonly vicious predator. In the area of the colony there are many birds and other creatures that, on Earth, would be considered small game. However, the large amount of sulfides and nitrates in their diets means that they are toxic to humans unless specially prepared and the taste is simply not worth the effort. With food imports from Earth extremely expensive, meat on the colony is provided by Earth animals kept indoors: chickens and other relatively small, sedentary animals are most common. But meat is extremely expensive compared to Earth and most Persephone natives are usually vegetarian out of necessity.
