Every major species in the galaxy, save the Twis'rin, has a wide number of religious beliefs amongst their population. The exact extent of religious belief is variable: the Balorim are almost entirely atheist and religion is a relatively new development for them brought on by extensive contact with more spiritual species. The Captab are widely religious but have so many utterly disparate beliefs that individual sects are quite small: they tend to believe that spirituality is a very personal matter and individual Captab seek what suits them best. The Doggei are predominantly polytheistic, with individual churches dedicated to the glorification of various gods such as Cauto, the god of peace and Surfa, the god of knowledge. The Twis'rin, in religion as in so many things, are an exception to the usual rule, and their beliefs are quite unusual. See NEWS TWIS'RIN RELIGION for further information. Humans have grown progressively less religious as the years have passed. It is estimated that around forty percent of Humans currently hold some religious belief. However, few actual religions familiar to a twenty-first century resident have died out: many have, indeed, branched off into various new orthodoxies designed to deal with the fact that mankind is no longer alone in the universe. | ||||||||
