Inspector Benton Williams is an officer in the Persephone Colonial Police. A senior officer and a long-time Persephone resident, Williams is a relatively solid and by-the-book officer, if one with a rather poor understanding of diplomacy.
On October 15, 2748, Williams led an investigation by armed police officers into the Blue Balorim? bar, whereupon, after some words, his officers were engaged in a firefight with Lieutenant-Colonel Jean Valliere and the United Nations Security Force. In the firefight Williams was seriously injured in the right shoulder by Lieutenant-Colonel Valliere and taken into custody by the soldiers.
Williams died in military custody the morning of October 16. Officially, the cause of death was the injury he had suffered in the firefight the previous afternoon, although it has been suggested that the military interrogation may have been a contributing factor.
