
Persephone is the name of the colony and only permanently inhabited area on the planet of Epsilon Indi III. The colony has a population of approximately 260,000, of whom the vast majority are human.
Persephone was established in 2738 by three colony ships dispatched by the United Nations: the Russian SV Yuri Gagarin, the European SV Christopher Columbus?, and the Chinese SV Marco Polo?.
Persephone is governed by the Colonial Council?. Approximately 1,250 United Nations soldiers in the form of the United Nations Security Force, Persephone are also stationed in the colony. These soldiers also account for most of the population outside the colony, stationing an assortment of bunkers and listening points to provide for planetary defense.
The primary economic activity on Persephone comes from the lumber industry, as Persephone lumber is beautiful, remarkably durable, and highly sought-after by contractors across the galaxy. There is also some tourism, particularly by human big game hunters, farming at a sustenance level, and minor levels of manufacturing. However, the colony as a whole is economically depressed, and unemployment runs rampant.
