Shyaloum is a large, swampy planet in the Qualstreit? system. With a predominantly sulfuric atmosphere and harsh, unforgiving surface conditions, the planet is a hellhole for most species but is also the home planet of the Balorim, nearly seventeen billion of whom currently live on the single vast, sea-studded continent that covers the planet's surface.
A few sealed domes on the planet allow habitation by foreigners, but Shyaloum's population is predominantly native. However, being a similar planet in many ways, Shyaloum also provided Persephone with many of its first food crops, particularly grains.
