Sol

Class: G2V (yellow dwarf)
Satellite stars: zero
Planets: eight
Inhabited planets: two
Sol is a yellow dwarf star along the inner rim of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. A rather conventional class G2V yellow dwarf, Sol is best known as the home of the Human species and the location of their home planet of Earth.
The Sol system has eight planets as well as the usual variety of smaller objects. Of the eight planets, two - Earth and Mars - are permanently inhabited by civilians. Smaller research stations and proto-colonies are located throughout the solar system, including on space stations and various satellites. 8.1 billion humans are estimated to live in the Sol system, of which eight billion are on Earth, seventy thousand are on Mars, and the remaining thirty thousand are scattered around smaller settlements.
There is one jump gate in the Sol system, leading to the nearby star system of Alpha Centauri? and from there to the rest of the galaxy. It is possible to construct other jump gates in the system but the human governments on Earth guard their territory jealously. No alien ship is permitted into the Sol system under pain of impoundment and imprisonment, and all alien traffic is instead redirected to the colony of Persephone in the nearby Epsilon Indi system.
