Orion Overview

This page is about the Orion race. For information on the old Orion empire, see Orion Syndicate. They are also not to be confused with Onions.

The Orions are a mysterious and brutal race, native to Rigel VII, and the only race in the old Orion Syndicate. Known for their unmistakable green skin and their alluring slavewomen, the Orions are mostly known in the modern era as humanoid sex objects. One of the galaxy's most misogynistic species known, the Orions practice sexism in a way that characters in 1950s Earth sitcoms would find distasteful and unpleasant. The Orions also practice slavery, seldom take prisoners, and are extremely bad in general at making friends. Although their usual claims to modern fame are attractive women and an unenlightened attitude, the Orions were once one of the most feared and universally despited peoples in the galaxy.

The tale of the Orions is an interesting one, a people seen as unpleasant and uncouth even by the Klingons, alternatively protected and hunted by the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets. Aside from their skin colour, Orions are generally indistinguishable from humans, but the resemblances stop at the level of looks. Orions are stronger, but stupider, than humans, while remaining less strong and marginally more intelligent than the Klingons with whom they have had so much controversy.

In the modern galaxy, Orions are seldom seen in general discourse. Large sections of Rigel VII are now uninhabited, and decades of unending warfare against vastly superior opponents have decimated the number of Orions left in the galaxy. Many of those who have gotten out into the galaxy at large have worked, often unsuccessfully, to shed the negative stereotypes attached to their people.

Orion Overview Course

The Orion People are a humanoid race standing 1.5-2 meters high. The dominant species of Orions have skin color ranging from rugged golden yellow to a light yellow. Some Orion female are born with green skin, and are said to be somewhat less intelligent than dominant yellow-skinned Orions. This may be due to a lack of education opportunity however than from genetics, although they can tend to behave in a more animalistic fashion. The usually have long, sharp claws and a greater physical dexterity than the dominant Orions. Green-skinned Orion females are held in semi-slavery by Orion males. They are extremely seductive, with legend holding that human males cannot resist them. Transport of Slave women beyond the neutral Orion planets is prohibited and, of course, is outlawed at all levels of the Federation. Few Federation personnel have really ever seen an Orion Slave female. Orion pirates and freebooters are sometimes encountered by Federation vessels.

Additional traits of the Dominant yellow-skinned Orion is sharp pointed teeth, and short, but sharp claw-like fingernails. Most Orions have brown, auburn, or white hair and often grow thin facial hair. Otherwise, the Orion people are very similar to other humanoid species. Personality traits of the Dominant yellow-skinned Orion is being quick-tempered and sarcastic. They hold all other species as inferior to themselves, and tend to be very suspicious of others...mostly because of their treatment in the past. They can be deceitful and tricky, having learned from many previous interactions with foreign races. They tend to make sure that they always have the advantage in any interaction. They quickly tire of interaction with those who prove themselves to be either ignorant or self-serving. They have little patience, especially when there is no profit to be gained.

Orion History Course

The documented history of the Orion civilization began in the Rigel System, where the Orions occupied a small Class M planet with lush vegitation and robust mineral deposits. At that time, the Orion people lived a relatively normal lifestyle of farming, mining, and commerce. Their planet was attacked and occupied by the Klingon Empire. Many civilians were killed during the brutal occupation of their planet. They were forced to work in the mines and fields to strip the planet of it's resources to fuel the Klingon Empire during it's war with the Federation. Most of the government and religious buildings were used by the Klingons as makeshift quarters and subsequently destroyed. The land was raped and minerals were stripped from beneath the surface of the planet.

A small group of Orions were able to escape this occupation force and fled to the neutral zone to find some assistance. They drafted a treaty with the Rihannsu for military assistance in their fight against the Klingons. However, when the attack was launched to free the Orion people from their oppressors, the Romulans never engaged, and allowed the complete destruction of the Orion Freedom Force. The Federation, though very much against the Klingon occupation of Rigel, refused to come to their aid. After this rebellion, the Klingons proceeded with the complete extermination of the Orion people on Rigel VIII. They left the planet in utter destruction, with no viable infastructure, farm land, or mineral deposits. Recently, a small group of approximately twelve Orions has surfaced in the Neutral Zone inhabiting the planet Donatu. They had constructed a small Starbase and Starship and have expressed great interest in being recognized by the United Federation of Planets. They seek the opportunity to return to their planet and rebuild their civilization that was destroyed by the Klingon aggressor so many years ago.

Orion Government Course

The Orion Government is in the beginning stages. With only a small number of Orions surviving the devasting occupation of Klingons on Rigel VIII and escaping to Donatu, there is not much administration to be done. There has been a Chancellor selected out of the survivors. The Orion government has recently begun seeking inclusion in the United Federation of Planets. It is rumored that a rogue Orion pirate captain had destroyed a Federation starship, but the Orion government cannot confirm that fact, and denies the existance of such vessels. The Orion government wishes only to be recognized, included in Federation, survive, rebuild, and live in peace on Rigel VIII. The rest of the government structure is either empty or non-existant at this time. The Chancellor is said to be surrounded by a small cabinet, but with only a dozen Orions surviving, that seems unlikely.
